Limapulo - Baba Can Cook

Click here for updated post in May 2015

Limapulo is hidden behind a road named Jalan Doraisamy, Dang Wangi. There is another well-known restaurant nearby here too, namely Yuk Kee but I always have to queue up for getting a sharing table there.

Though pricing in Limapulo is slightly higher than Yuk Kee and some restaurant nearby, I still go there quite often as there is easier to get our seat, with air-cond as well, food serves on time and the MOST important one, food is heavenly delicious! I would like to point out my FAVOURITE  Nyonya Laksa , and is only available on Mon, Wed and Friday. Ergh,, i remember it now as i went there one time in Thursday and sadly found out there is no nyonya laksa serve on that day. = (

don't worry, this Nyonya Laksa is not that spicy based on the color you see, there is no need for me to order extra drink. Maybe the coconut milk in the laksa has reduced the spicy taste, the soup base is quite thick & milky.

All the lunch meal is price at RM9.90, noted is lunch meal not lunch set, so no drinks come together with your food selection.

my second favourite would be the  Gerang Asam Pari . There is only two/three small fish cut inside the bowl. (Perhaps the cost for the fish is not cheap.)  plus with the rice & side dishes (fried egg with onion or fried vegetables) is really enough for me. The asam gravy(kuah) + rice is so YUMMY! is a must try.

Everyone knows  Pongteh Chicken  is one of the signature nyonya food. Chicken marinated with salty bean paste. this is suitable for those who just want a plain flavor for lunch. Chicken also comes with some potatoes cut & mushroom. When i see around, quite a number of people ordering this too.

mmm... Ayam berempah , the taste is good as is full with 'rempah' right, but the chicken portion is relatively smaller.

Curry chicken  is not so flavorful as others. maybe is the lack of curry leaves?  Furthermore, it used chicken breast part which is more dry rather than juicy. or maybe we just unlucky that day ?

Nyonya fried mee  taste good too but portion is relatively smaller, definitely only feed girl's stomach. Yes, with the same pricing as others, RM9.90.

mm.. what else.........Tamarind chicken !  taste good for me! tamarind means asam. for those who cooks they know, can't explain what is the taste but the gravy taste quite special for me, worth to give it a try, a juicy chicken meal with no chilli. Same grade as pongteh chicken.

Mee Siam  only serves on Tues and Thursday. never try it yet.

ok, for the dessert part, i like to eat the  Cendol  or  ABC. this two are quite similar, fluffy ice with Gula Melaka. Noted that this ABC is not the colorful ABC we used to eat in Penang. the difference here is just ABC doesn't comes with cendol but corn, peanut, etc.

i also have tried sago gula melaka pudding ( something like the photo below) & pajeri mangga.

good dessert with gula melaka & coconut milk but is quite sweet. hard to resist the sweetness of gula melaka.

i have never try pajeri mangga and i thought it would be something sweet related with mango. i was surprised with the food when it served. nothing similar with what i imagined. small mango with seed, topped with spicy sambal. It's spicy for me.

update: just tried Rojak , not a fan of it... too much portion with mostly taufu & taugeh only.

after few times visited Lima pulo, i would like to conclude that nyonya food extensively used coconut milk which is not suitable for Weightwatchers like me to visit often. haha!

i just spot the difference lately when i visited there. newly wall painting is added. Before this, interior design is quite plain, plain wall mostly inside there, only with good lighting.

INTERESTING FACT:

Uncle John used to be in Limablas but now he's in Limapulo. correct me if i'm wrong. what is happening yea? LimaBlas still exist? whenever u go Limapulo, u will noticed an uncle sitting or standing nearby the entrance, yea, he is Uncle John, he always greet us whenever we step in.

thank you.
my friends from penang came to visit me, yeah~ ^^

lunch time 12-1.30pm is quite crowded & 3 of us have to squeeze to this small table.

my old buddy came for lunch here & this is the first place i recommend to them

i spotted the wall painting after i back to home and checked this photo, haha!

due to the lighting inside Limapulo is quite dim, i can't capture any photo nicely. my food photos are mostly taken from Limapulo facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Baba-Can-Cook/635621076504974
